Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment by following all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Examine customer-delivered ferrous materials to identify the appropriate commodity classification.
  • Determine the purchase category and approve or reject materials based on established specifications.
  • Utilize a computer kiosk to input purchases and process transactions.
  • Inspect materials to confirm compliance with internal quality control standards and applicable regulations.
  • Apply approval or rejection markings as needed and document inspection findings in detailed reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate is required.
  • One to three months of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • The ability to read, speak, and understand English is required; Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn internal systems are necessary.
  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions based on inspection criteria are essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel materials.
  • Frequently required to reach, climb, balance, talk, and hear.
  • Must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The Ferrous Materials Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming ferrous materials to ensure they meet company specifications and quality standards. This role also involves purchasing compliant materials and maintaining accurate documentation.
