Inspector

Responsibilities

• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
• Communicates to customers the material grading process when the customer does not know or understand.
• Controls traffic in the yard. Uses signals and loud verbal commands to direct traffic.
• Communicates with office and truck drivers to determine commodity drop-off location.
• Works independently while in the yard.
• Works with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
• Works with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
• Clean up work area at the end of shift.
• Keeps work areas neat and orderly.
• Ensures regular attendance and punctuality.
• Organizes materials to have more effective use of space.
• Disposes of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
• Performs inspections to ensure cleanup is completed.
• Ensures effective housekeeping in workplace area for safety and better hygienic conditions.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Preferred – high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
• Ability to: communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands.
• Previous experience purchasing metal a plus.
