About the role
The Construction Inspector will conduct field inspections for a wide range of Transportation, Highways and Structural construction projects in the heavy civil industry.
Responsibilities
- Conduct complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are being used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions
- Multitask management of project assignments
- Conduct field inspections
- Use mobile devices to document work - as required in North Carolina
- Reviews drawings to prepare for the inspection. Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected
- Documents the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor
- Conducts field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation
- Inspects work zones for proper traffic control setup, erosion control devices and maintenance thereof, utility coordination and right-of-way issue resolution
Requirements
- At least two (2) years of roadway inspection experience for highway construction methods, materials, standards and specifications
- Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record
Preferred Skills and Experience
- NCDOT Certifications preferred: NCDOT Erosion & Sediment Control Level II, NCDOT Introduction to Asphalt Pavements, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician, NCDOT Concrete Field Technician, ACI Concrete Field Technician, NCDOT ABC Sampling Technician, NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling Technician, NCDOT Conventional Density Technician, NICET Certifications
Skills
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
