Inspector

Essential Functions

• Conduct complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate materials and construction processes.
• Evaluate if construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Multitask management of project assignments.
• Conduct field inspections using mobile devices to document work.
• Review drawings to prepare for inspections.
• Understand the design of the construction to be inspected.
• Document the results of the inspection and communicate findings to the supervisor.
• Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation and other contract administration documentation.
• Inspect work zones for proper traffic control setup, erosion control devices, maintenance thereof, utility coordination, and right-of-way issue resolution.

Required Skills And Experience

• At least two (2) years of roadway inspection experience for highway construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
• Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Skills And Experience

• NCDOT Certifications: NCDOT Erosion & Sediment Control Level II, NCDOT Introduction to Asphalt Pavements, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician, NCDOT Concrete Field Technician, ACI Concrete Field Technician, NCDOT ABC Sampling Technician, NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling Technician, NCDOT Conventional Density Technician, NICET Certifications.

Physical Demands

• The ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites.
• The ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• The ability to navigate uneven terrain.
• The ability to climb ladders or stairs.
• The ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Exposure to construction-related hazards.
