Inspector
About the role
Responsible for ensuring product quality and reliability through inspection, testing, and measurement at various stages of the manufacturing process. Interprets engineering drawings and specifications, performs dimensional and nondestructive testing using precision measurement tools (including CMMs), evaluates and documents inspection data, and recommends improvements to quality standards. Works closely with engineering, supervision, and production operators to resolve quality issues, set dimensional allowances, manage minor tolerance deviations, and maintain compliance with inspection procedures. Also responsible for gauge calibration, inspection documentation, and supporting continuous quality improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
- Select products for tests at specified stages in the production process and test products for dimensions, performance, and mechanical characteristics.
- Check dimensions for close tolerances, accurate dimensions and specified finishes using precision measuring instruments from 1.0000” to 40.0000”.
- Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
- Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within equipment capability.
- Set up and perform nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products.
- Follow all inspection standards and procedures and advise and assist operators where necessary.
- Work with supervisor in setting up dimension allowances and in passing parts with minor tolerance deviations.
- Fill out and file various inspection reports as required and forward reports to various offices.
- Perform and/or coordinate calibration of gages and/or measuring devices.
- Operate shop floor and office CMMs.
Critical Competencies
Candidate must demonstrate a consistent record of producing high‑quality work supported by precise, reliable, and thoroughly documented inspection results. This includes a proven ability to follow established processes, maintain accuracy under varying workloads, and uphold the standards required to ensure parts meet all specifications and customer expectations.
