About the role
LyondellBasell is a leader in the global chemical industry, creating sustainable solutions for everyday living. The Stationary Equipment Inspector supports the Bayport Polymers Plant in Pasadena, TX—a four‑line polypropylene (PP) manufacturing facility with an annual benchmark capacity of approximately 2,000 MM lbs, the largest PP site in the company. The role is responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity of the plant’s stationary equipment assets through inspection, risk assessment, and work‑process management.
Responsibilities
- Manage relevant stationary equipment damage mechanisms by identifying, executing, and documenting inspections for equipment types such as vessels, heat exchangers, and piping circuits.
- Create and execute individual inspection plans using the Meridium (APM) Inspection Data Management System (IDMS).
- Develop inspection recommendations for findings requiring action and track them to closure.
- Lead or participate in risk assessments associated with delayed or cancelled stationary equipment inspections.
- Process deferrals for overdue or upcoming inspections and associated recommendations.
- Develop and manage work processes in line with corporate guidance to mitigate risk from hard‑to‑inspect locations.
- Manage the site’s corrosion under insulation (CUI), corrosion under fireproofing (CUF), maintenance paint program (MPP), and external stress corrosion cracking (ESCC) work processes.
- Manage the site’s pressure relief device work processes.
- Oversee inspection work processes for special equipment, including elevated flare, non‑metallic tanks, cooling towers, structures, and grating.
- Manage the site’s stationary equipment quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) work processes.
- Manage work processes for the design, installation, monitoring, modification, and removal activities associated with temporary repairs.
- Take ownership of site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for inspection, including monthly reporting and addressing causes for KPI shortfalls.
- Direct contract inspection resources to execute the site asset strategy in accordance with site work processes.
- Assess risk and document rationale for any stationary equipment not assigned an individual inspection plan.
- Provide technical support and expertise during front‑end engineering and design (FEED) and execution phases of capital projects.
- Engage with peers across the company to share and learn best practices and lessons learned for mechanical integrity topics.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical integrity inspection‑related activities within refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries.
- Clear, concise communication skills; ability to assertively recommend repairs critical to plant safety.
- Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Certifications: API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector) and API 570 (Piping Inspector).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or completion of related college‑level courses.
- AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI).
- API 653 (Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector) certification.
- Mechanical inspection experience at a polypropylene (PP) manufacturing site.
Knowledge Development
- Understanding of equipment failure mechanisms (corrosion, erosion, chloride stress corrosion cracking, fretting, etc.), maintenance, and repair.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards: NBIC, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, ASME Section V, ANSI B.16.5, ANSI B.31.3, and ANSI B.31.1.
- Knowledge of pressure relief device operation, failure mechanisms, and NBIC code requirements.
- Awareness and application of non‑destructive examination (NDE) techniques: visual, UT, MT, PT, and RT (film interpretation).
- Software proficiency: Meridium.
Pay
Anticipated salary range: $107,600.00 – $161,400.00 per year, determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
