Inspector

About the role
The Field Inspector verifies newly constructed homes to HERS, EPA's ENERGY STAR Program, Federal Incentives/National Programs, and other Utility Programs. This role performs inspections at residential development sites, primarily serving large production home builders. Field Inspectors coordinate with a Field Coordinator to assess daily schedules, conduct diagnostic testing, and interface with job superintendents, sub-contractors, and city inspectors. Clear and frequent communication with the Field Coordinator and Operations Manager regarding job site status is critical.
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections and HERS compliance testing for new construction builders
- Travel daily to multiple job sites
- Complete daily inspections
- Communicate deficiencies to job superintendents and educate them and their trades on correction items
Requirements
- High School Diploma or AA Degree
- Two (2) years of construction experience and/or one (1) year of field experience supported with degree in related field of study
- HERS-Rater Certification preferred, or obtained within 3 months of hire
- ENERGY STAR for Homes certification preferred
- Photovoltaic Inspector Certification preferred
- OSHA 10-Hour Training Course Certification preferred
- HVAC installation or technical experience preferred
- Experience in green building programs such as LEED, Build-it-Green, or Energy Star is a plus
- Reliable transportation required to accommodate testing equipment and a ladder (role may involve driving 80-120 miles per day)
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and state-minimum auto insurance required
- Ability to conduct multiple inspections each day
- Must pass a background check and motor vehicle report
Skills
- Solid communication skills, able to convey direction and leadership while enforcing Energy Code to project Superintendents and trades
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills
- Several years of construction experience
- Ability to read building plans
- Good physical condition to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment, climb ladders, and access attic spaces
Schedule
Generally Monday – Friday day shift, with additional hours, including weekends, as required by business needs.

Pay
Training wage is $20.00 per hour. Once fully trained and certified, this position transitions to a production (piece work) pay compensation model with estimated earnings of $50,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on performance.
