Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing and inspection of soil compaction to verify compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Conduct field inspection and testing of asphalt placement and compaction to ensure proper installation and quality.
  • Observe and support concrete pours, including sampling and testing of concrete to confirm required strength and performance.
  • Support construction projects such as retaining walls, parking lots, and retail sites by providing on-site quality inspection and testing services.
  • Work alongside senior inspectors to learn testing procedures, industry standards, and best practices in construction inspection.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed field reports and documentation for all testing and inspection activities.
  • Travel daily to multiple job sites across Central New Jersey as required by project needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and project specifications at all times while on site.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and site personnel regarding test results, site conditions, and any observed issues.
  • Follow established protocols for handling, labeling, and recording samples taken in the field.
  • Adhere to time-sensitive schedules, arriving on time so that teams can meet early morning site start times.

Requirements

  • Experience or strong interest in construction inspection or quality inspection in a field environment.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn soil compaction testing procedures.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn asphalt placement and compaction testing procedures.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn concrete sampling and testing procedures.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to various job sites daily.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to travel to job sites and start work early in the morning when needed.
  • Strong reliability and punctuality, especially for time-sensitive, client-facing work.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Comfort working hands-on in the field in a physical, active environment.
  • Strong work ethic and positive, professional attitude.

Qualifications

  • Experience with soil, asphalt, or concrete testing in a construction or field setting.
  • Experience in construction labor or site work.
  • Previous field-based roles in construction, environmental, or related industries.
  • OSHA 40 certification.
  • Prior exposure to environmental or construction projects.
  • Interest in learning industry standards and advancing within construction quality inspection.

Work Environment

  • This is a primarily field-based role with daily travel to active construction sites across Central New Jersey.
  • Typical start times are in the early morning, and schedules may vary based on project demands.
  • Work is time-sensitive, and punctuality is critical, as teams often leave early to meet 7 AM site start times.
  • The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and in a physical, hands-on environment around soil, asphalt, concrete, and heavy equipment.
  • The position requires appropriate field attire suitable for construction sites and adherence to all site safety practices and personal protective equipment requirements.
