About the role

Insomniac is looking for Exterior Operations Crew. This position will report to the Director of Exterior Operations.

Available Positions

• Exterior Operations Site Crew/Heavy Equipment Operator:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, stakebeds, water trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, etc.
  • Forklift certifications required.
  • Earth-moving equipment and/or CDL certifications and experience are a plus.
• Ext Ops Build Leads:
  • Experienced in festival builds or comparable environments.
  • Understands not just what to build, but why and how.
  • Directs crew in safe job performance, works with vendors to mark fence lines, manages inventory for loading/unloading trucks, and reports equipment maintenance needs.
  • Typically requires prior experience working on the crew.
• Signage Crew:
  • Responsible for hanging signs around the festival perimeter to direct attendees.
  • Tasks include installing small signs with zip ties, larger signs on overhead truss, and parking lot flags.
  • Forklift certifications helpful but not required.
• Signage Leads:
  • Performs all duties of the Signage Crew.
  • Understands the purpose and placement of signs, directs the signage crew, and has strong knowledge of the local area, patron flow, and key points of interest.
  • Requires prior experience in signage or similar departments.
• Shuttle Loader/Unloader:
  • Entry-level role focused on loading and unloading attendees from buses on show days.
  • No certifications required.
• Shuttle Leads:
  • Handles basic bus loading/unloading and takes on higher-level responsibilities.
  • Manages shuttle staff break times, checks in bus drivers, ensures smooth bus operations, and troubleshoots issues.

Requirements

• Must have a clean motor vehicle report.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Must be able to walk long distances for extended periods and remain constantly moving.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
• Must wear clean and presentable attire (show blacks).
• Must be motivated with an “Everything is possible” attitude.
• Must be an active problem solver with a sense of urgency for projects large and small.
• Heavy equipment certification (for applicable roles).
• OSHA certification (preferred).

Work Environment

• Must be able to tolerate loud noise levels and busy environments.
• May work in extreme temperature conditions.
• Must be willing to travel frequently to work events during holidays, evenings, and weekends as required.

Pay

Hiring salary range: $16.00–$30.00 USD per hour. Compensation is estimated based on a successful California applicant and assumes the candidate will be in or perform the position from California. Similar positions outside California may receive different compensation. Factors considered include education, training, experience, work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, external market value, and internal pay alignment.
