About the role

Sentara Health is seeking a full-time, on-site Patient Monitoring Technician in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This position involves remote monitoring of patients requiring continuous observation to ensure patient safety and support medically necessary therapies. The Technician will observe and report high-risk behaviors, document observations, and communicate changes in patient condition to the healthcare team. The role operates under the direction of the Program Manager and/or Team Coordinator, focusing on promoting a positive patient experience while maintaining patient privacy and dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate understanding and proficiency with the Remote Patient Monitoring Software System.
  • Maintain visual observation of assigned patients at all times; immediately summon nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate observation of the assigned patient population.
  • Participate in shift reports with on-coming and departing staff members, reviewing pertinent information and behaviors.
  • Provide patients with explanations as necessary but refrain from counseling or offering opinions or judgment.
  • Communicate timely information to on-site staff when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participate in identifying and reporting patient safety issues; ensure the patient environment is safe and report potential hazards.
  • Maintain patient dignity and privacy at all times.
  • Demonstrate safe workplace practices, follow safety rules, and participate in organizational and department safety programs.
  • Collaborate professionally with healthcare staff, patients, and family members to ensure an excellent patient experience.
  • Document observations in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) at regular intervals per department policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.
  • No specific certification or licensure requirements.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 36 hours per week.
  • Standard working hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.
