About the role
Performs a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching and admitting/discharge duties in support of assigned patient care department.
Core duties and responsibilities
- Greets and admits patients, completing admitting information in computer.
- Locates and assigns beds, notifying referring physicians of admission as requested.
- Communicates transfer information between departments, dispatching support associates as needed.
- Clerically discharges patients, disassembling records and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Facilitates communication among departments to ensure efficient operations.
- Answers telephone and patient intercom in a courteous and timely manner, dispatching appropriate personnel.
- Maintains complete and accurate telephone or visitor messages for department personnel.
- Welcomes visitors and provides requested information about patient care routines.
- Enters physician orders into EPIC System accurately and consistently.
- Schedules lab work, x-rays, diagnostic procedures, and forwards documents to appropriate individuals.
- Coordinates and facilitates ongoing communication for patient transportation between departments.
- Accurately prepares patient identification bands and name tags, maintaining patient records and stock levels of office supplies.
- Maintains accurate statistical or unit activity data as assigned.
