Position Summary
The Inpatient Rehab Hospital Coder works from home and is responsible for identifying correct coding and sequencing of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and comorbidity codes on the claim form and IRF-PAI for the Hospital's inpatient population.
Responsibilities
- Ensures that documentation to substantiate code assignment is present in the medical record
- Completes coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records in accordance with ICD-10 CM coding rules and guidelines
- Queries physicians when documentation is unclear for coding purposes
- Enters codes into the medical record and outcome system to ensure IRF-PAI and claim will submit timely
Minimum Education and Experience
- Two years of medical coding experience - IRF experience preferred
- Certification - CPC, CCS, CMC or equivalent

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Detail-oriented, able to meet strict time frames
