About the role

Performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Prepares, compounds, packages, labels, and dispenses medication and nutritional products (non-sterile). Adheres to all standards, procedures, cleaning protocols, and infection control policies to maintain a safe medication area. Assists with medicine and supply inventory management and control, including maintaining adequate stock levels, checking accuracy of pricing, and completing required regulatory documentation. Exercises sound judgment and has developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety. May also be responsible for performing other specific tasks and/or orienting other staff to the department.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, packages, labels, and dispenses medication and nutritional products.
  • Repackages and compounds nonsterile products.
  • Manages, stores, prepares, receives, unpacks, transports, disposes of, or administers drugs identified as hazardous or potentially hazardous by NIOSH in accordance with USP 800 guidelines.
  • Performs basic inventory management duties, including maintaining adequate stock levels, checking pricing accuracy, and completing regulatory documentation.
  • Carries out calculations and executes basic math skills needed for common dosage determination.
  • Prioritizes assignments and works within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Works independently and as part of a team, handling multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and resolves standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECHR), Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHARMC), or Pharmacy Technician (TCH) certification.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations, and laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including controlled substance delivery and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications.
  • Basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including NABP, TJC, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical individuals.
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including prioritizing assignments and working within standardized operating procedures.
  • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and related pharmaceutical technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling interruptions and multiple tasks.

Schedule

  • Full-time, rotating schedule.
  • 8-hour shifts, variable days of the week.
  • Rotating weekends.
  • 40 hours per week.

Pay

Pay range is $31.71 to $44.39 per hour. The compensation range may vary based on geographic location, candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.
