About the role

This position leads technician training efforts, identifies and executes process improvement opportunities, and prioritizes workflow. The role also provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. The position must be trained to handle receiving, sterile compounding, operating room, and carousel operations.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $1,500 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs expert training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
  • Develops training materials and completes training documentation.
  • Operates independently on process improvement projects and actively implements identified solutions.
  • Assists the pharmacist in reprioritizing daily workflow to maintain patient care and assists with schedule adjustments.
  • Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers and exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc., using automated and paper systems, ensuring accuracy of data.
  • Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery and drug information.
  • Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
  • Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
  • Assures regulatory compliance for medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797, and other regulatory documentation as required.

Requirements

  • Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.
  • CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.
  • Two years of pharmacy technician experience required.

Qualifications

  • None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
  • Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.

Pay

$19.98 - $28.54 per hour (Hiring Range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.
