Inpatient/Outpatient Palliative Physician

Where Maimonides Medical Center Brooklyn, NY, United States Description *THIS HYBRID INPATIENT/OUTPATIENT POSITION HAS AN ANTICIPATED START DATE OF 9/1/2027.* Job Description/Features Provide direct clinical care on an inpatient consultative service to patients across specialties in a 700+ bed teaching hospital and at a 130-bed community hospital; responsibilities include clarifying goals of care, advanced symptom management, and counseling patients/families/providers on what to expect at end of life Provide direct clinical care in an embedded supportive oncology clinic at a free-standing Cancer Center at least 1 day per week. Opportunities for program development, including: building/enhancing a palliative care program at a community hospital, expanding outpatient palliative medicine presence, starting a palliative medicine fellowship Supervise and teach students, residents, and fellows rotating through the palliative medicine division; prepare and deliver lectures to learners at all levels of training Participate in efforts to improve primary palliative care throughout the medical center Actively engage in service to and quality improvement efforts within the division, department, and medical center Pursue academic projects guided by one’s own clinical questions and interests Opportunity to engage in clinical research Opportunity for faculty appointment at SUNY Downstate Position Qualifications Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD/DO) Fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine BE/BC in related field (internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, etc.) and BE/BC in hospice and palliative medicine; BE physicians are required to sit for and pass their boards at the earliest date possible Unrestricted New York State medical license and valid DEA license ACLS/BLS certification Experience working on an interdisciplinary team, with excellent interpersonal skills Excellent English written and verbal communication skills Outstanding teaching skills Interest in working with a wide range of stakeholders and disciplines to improve primary palliative care Apply Attn: Dr. Justin Rice E-mail: jrice@maimo.org View all jobs
