About the role

The Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Boston Medical Center and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding clinician to serve as a hospitalist on the inpatient hematology/oncology teaching service.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an attending physician on the inpatient hematology/oncology service at Boston Medical Center, the major teaching hospital for Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
  • Rotate on the service for 36 weeks over the course of a year, supervising either a 10-patient or 16-patient team, in an alternating schedule.
  • Supervise both teams which function as teaching services, and are staffed by residents and interns from the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine internal medicine residency program.
  • Serve as the service attending Monday-Friday. Weekend duties will be shared with other faculty in the section of hematology/oncology throughout the course of the year.
  • Participate in the education of medical students and the didactic training of residents.

Requirements

  • Board certified/eligible in internal medicine; additional certification in hematology/oncology is helpful but not required.
  • Extensive collaborative opportunities with multiple disciplines provide an outstanding environment for research initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes/safety, optimizing efficiency of patient progression through hospitalization, implementing new systems and processes, and establishing more consistent standards of practice in the acute care setting.
  • Licensed or able to obtain a license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Current BLS is required.
  • Passion and interest for excellence in patient care and teaching in an academic inpatient hospital setting, with an interest in hematology/oncology.

Qualifications

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
  • ABIM Board certification in internal medicine
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to provide acute care to hospitalized oncology patients

  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Academic rank as Instructor or Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience, training, and achievements.

Pay

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison.

Schedule

The hospitalist will serve as the service attending Monday-Friday. Weekend duties will be shared with other faculty in the section of hematology/oncology throughout the course of the year.
