Position Overview

The Clinical Pharmacist position at Shepherd Center is responsible for the overall review, maintenance, revision, and implementation of the Siemens Pharmacy System and Soarian Clinicals CPOE (medications).

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and validate physician orders, review drug-drug interactions and adverse drug events, making suggestions for alternatives as needed.
  • Reviews reports on key labs and markers to check for adverse reactions and consults providers with findings and suggestions to improve therapy effectiveness.
  • Participates on hospital committees to share input from pharmacy role in patient care.
  • Ensures clinical effectiveness and safety of all therapies by processing all orders as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for all medication related information as required by other clinical staff.
  • Aids in developing and implementing updates to the Pharmacy systems.
  • Aids in the review, and testing of new orders, protocols, and procedures before activation to ensure accuracy and reliability of the order process.
  • Promotes safety practices in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reports employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
  • Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility.
  • Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
  • Preceptors for pharmacy residents per ASHP guidelines ensuring the training, development of skills, presentation of research and papers, exposing residents to actual scenarios to develop critical thinking and knowledge so the resident can practice as a clinical pharmacist upon graduation from the residency program.
  • Attends meetings and outside training as needed to support residents in presentations, poster sessions, and discussions.
  • Documents evaluations of residents noting strengths, skill development, and areas for improvement in PHORCAS to support the residency program.
  • Keeps current in training and self-development to maintain preceptor status and meet ASHP requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy, PharmD preferred.
  • Current Georgia Pharmacy License.
  • Board Certification or completed PGY1 Residency.

Skills

  • Proficient with the use of a computer and software systems.
  • Ability to communicate with all staff members, make presentations before a group.
