About the role
The Inpatient Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist (Independent Contractor) provides expert psychiatric consultation services to medically ill inpatients across hospital units at Valley Medical Center, including the emergency room, medical floor, surgical floors, critical care unit, and obstetrics.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric and behavioral conditions that arise in the context of medical illness, hospitalization, or treatment.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop appropriate safety and treatment plans.
- Assess and manage behavioral disturbances associated with dementia, delirium, or other neuropsychiatric and neurocognitive conditions.
- Carefully coordinate care with hospital staff to optimize patient outcomes and ensure integrated treatment approaches.
- Support ED psychiatric counselor (LICSW, LMHC, SUDP) psychiatric evaluation and detainment processes; provide daily consult services for patients involuntarily detained in the ED or requiring inpatient admission.
- Collaborate closely with Case Management Social Work services supporting best practices in stabilization and treatment options facilitating optimized discharge planning.
- Maintain familiarity with state laws and hospital policies governing involuntary psychiatric evaluation and treatment, including emergency holds.
- Provide education, consultation, and support to nursing and other hospital staff regarding behavioral management, psychiatric symptoms, and de-escalation strategies.
- Document evaluations, recommendations, and progress in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- BC Psychiatrist, Fellowship training and BC/BE in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry is preferred.
- Ability to obtain a medical professional license in the State of WA.
- Ability to obtain a DEA license with full prescriptive authority.
