Education / Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of American Health Information Management approved RHIT or RHIA course and/or completion of college level courses in anatomy and physiology and related science courses, preferred.
- Minimum 2 years coding experience in an acute care setting preferred.
License / Certification
- CCS, CIC required, or CPC with prior inpatient coding experience required.
- If RHIA/RHIT certification, a CCS or CIC must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Skilled in the use of computers.
- Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
- Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Position requires sitting for 90% of the workday and mobility 10% of the workday.
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
- Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
- Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Minimal noise levels.
- Much exposure to computer work.
- Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
- Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
- Some exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Occasional exposure to radiation.
