About the role
The Inpatient Coder Level 2 performs independent coding of inpatient medical records, ensuring accuracy in assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient hospital encounters in compliance with official coding guidelines, regulatory agencies, and hospital policies.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficient understanding of complex clinical scenarios, including comorbidities and complications.
- Analyze detailed clinical documentation to identify relevant clinical indicators for accurate coding.
- Perform and respond to documentation queries in a timely manner.
- Apply strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.
- Participate in basic auditing and quality assurance activities.
- Utilize problem-solving and critical thinking skills to resolve coding issues.
- Communicate professionally with physicians and healthcare teams.
- Work independently while meeting deadlines and productivity goals.
- Identify cases requiring provider documentation clarification and collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team.
- Maintain established coding productivity and accuracy standards.
- Assist in mentoring Level 1 coders or new team members as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Two (2) years of inpatient coding experience
- CPC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, OR CIC Certification (Preferred)
- Associates degree in HIT or related field (Preferred)
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems
- Proficient in clinical documentation and coding compliance
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Pay
$27.80 - $41.69 per hour, depending on experience.
