Inpatient Coder II

About the role

The Inpatient Coder II is responsible for analyzing medical records to assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes, ensuring accurate DRG assignments, and communicating with CDI on discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Assigns ICD-10-CM and PCS codes to ensure correct code assignment and optimal reimbursement.
• Abstracts pertinent information from patient records and sequences diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines.
• Applies POA indicators and verifies discharge disposition accuracy.
• Communicates with CDI on mismatches regarding DRG, principal diagnosis, CC, MCC, HAC, PSI, SOI/ROM.
• Queries physicians for unclear coding purposes and maintains four-day turnaround times.
• Maintains productivity standards and collaborates with other departments to meet monthly goals.
• Participates in coding educational webinars and reviews individually audited cases.
• Develops coding policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Program Graduate in Health Information Management Services (HIMS) or related field
• 3-4 years active inpatient coding experience

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical sciences, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and laboratory medicine.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to organize and present information professionally.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, 3M 360, and EPIC EMR.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA/RHIT), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).

Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors including experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

This position is remote work eligible for candidates residing in FL, GA, ID, KS, KY, MS, NC, OK, SC, SD, TN, and VA.

Pay

Hiring range is $27.30 - $37.58/hourly.
