About the Role

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction so students complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion-based projects, and meaningful development. Your role is not instructional—AI manages academic delivery. Instead, you serve as a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments define the standard, guiding students through resistance, lack of focus, and uncertainty. The position emphasizes depth over advancement, allowing you to work with the same students year after year, challenging them beyond their perceived limits.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions using Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability.
  • Facilitate structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on authentic stories from your elite background and evaluating mastery through Alpha's Test2Pass framework.
  • Establish cultural standards each morning via focused kickoff sessions that reinforce high-performance expectations campus-wide.
  • Monitor student advancement in real time and modify coaching approaches based on evidence, not intuition.
  • Develop trusted mentor relationships with students and families by maintaining high standards, demonstrating consistency, and creating documented motivation strategies.

What You Won’t Be Doing:

  • Teaching content, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments (handled by Alpha’s AI-powered academic platform).
  • Presenting to large classrooms of 30+ students (focus is on intensive small-group coaching).
  • Supervising personnel or advancing through an administrative track (prioritizes direct student impact).
  • Attending faculty meetings or managing school bureaucracy (time remains dedicated to students).
  • Compromising standards to achieve targets (e.g., if a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is to uncover what prevented 100%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized field (e.g., national/international competition honors, distinguished degree from a top-tier university, role at a highly selective firm/fellowship, elite performing arts training, or founding/growing a successful venture).
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably elevated others’ performance.
  • Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available).
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (Division 1 varsity, national team, or professional level) with coaching/mentoring experience.
  • Experience in high-accountability settings (e.g., management consulting, investment banking, military leadership).
  • Proven track record of youth development through mentoring outside traditional academic environments (e.g., community organizations, after-school initiatives, sports camps).
  • Confidence presenting to and establishing trust with high-expectation families investing in premium private education.
