About the role

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction so students complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion-based projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight—they need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments define the standard: someone capable of assessing the environment, establishing the culture, and guiding them through resistance, lack of focus, and uncertainty.

Your role is not instructional. AI manages the academic delivery. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and hold students to the same rigorous standard you've maintained for yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies obstacles and establishes ambitious targets. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, not engagement. The final twenty percent is devoted to launching each day with focused morning sessions that cultivate a culture where mediocrity is unacceptable.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning trust with students. Within a few months, you become the person they rely on to challenge them beyond their perceived limits. The outcome isn't upward mobility—it's the opportunity to work with the same students year after year, remaining present as they mature.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitate structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery by drawing on authentic stories from your own elite background, then evaluating mastery through Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establish the cultural standard each morning via focused kickoff sessions that reinforce high-performance expectations campus-wide
  • Monitor student advancement in real time and modify coaching approaches based on evidence, not intuition
  • Develop trusted mentor relationships with students and their families by maintaining high standards, demonstrating consistency, and creating documented motivation strategies

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching content, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments—Alpha's AI-powered academic platform manages instruction; you manage motivation
  • Presenting to a full classroom of 30 students (your focus is intensive coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction)
  • Supervising other personnel or advancing through an administrative track (this position prioritizes direct student impact over organizational progression)
  • Attending faculty meetings or managing school bureaucracy (your time remains dedicated to students)
  • Compromising standards to achieve targets (if a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is to uncover what prevented 100%)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized field (examples: national or international competition honors, distinguished degree from a top-tier university, role at a highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts training, or founding and growing a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably elevated others' performance
  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (Division 1 varsity, national team, or professional level) with coaching or mentoring experience with younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability settings such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Proven track record of youth development through mentoring outside traditional academic environments (community organizations, after-school initiatives, sports camps)
  • Confidence presenting to and establishing trust with high-expectation families investing in premium private school education
