Job Description
The Injection Mold Technician is responsible for all aspects of the injection mold including establishing injection mold processes, changing out molds, completing mold set-ups and material drying, troubleshooting processes, mold operating, and maintenance of injection mold equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform and direct the mold and material changeovers
- Develop new mold processes for prototypes and production molds
- Assure that mold setup, changeovers, and housekeeping standards are met
- Ensure new job start-ups are correct, making any necessary adjustments
- Work with molding personnel to ensure molded parts meet expected requirements, and adjust if necessary
- Troubleshoot processing problems and work through issues
- Verify process parameters and implement changes
- Inspect parts to ensure they meet specifics
- Stop mold samplings to correct any quality issues that may arise
- Review and inspect machines daily for maintenance issues and report to the maintenance department
- Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures
- Comply with all safety, quality, and work rules and regulations
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 2-5 years of previous injection molding process experience is required
- Proficient skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic are necessary
- Strong mechanical abilities & knowledge- preferably in the Plastics Industry, with experience in Injection Molding
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills candidate needs to be very detail-oriented
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong communication skills interacting with all levels of a company’s hierarchy
Education and Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in a similar type of position working in the Plastics Industry; injection molding processes
- High School diploma is preferred
- College degree beneficial but not necessary
- RJG or Paulson Injection training is preferred
- Possibly consider any previous on-the-job training
Work Environment
- The candidate will be responsible for the initial mold start-up and processing of prototypes and occasional production molds.
- The candidate will hang, and sample new molds and dry multiple materials as needed, they will make inputs for additional mold modifications.
- They will have the ability to debug and create mold processes with multiple injection materials from PP to PC’s.
- Operate and inspect new injection molding parts to our customer’s requirements.
- Conduct minor maintenance activities on assigned presses and molds as needed to keep equipment running and maintained.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the injection raw materials, process requirements, and product quality specifications to create process sheets.
- Keep machinery, work area, and floors neat and orderly and comply with client safety standards.
- Able to perform thorough product inspections and make appropriate decisions relative to product quality requirements.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team with limited supervision for completion.
- Must be familiar with relevant controlled documents (Work Instructions, Excel, Word software, and other required Forms, etc.).
- Must understand preventative maintenance task lists, and equipment manuals that pertain to the operation of all equipment in the TTL area.
- Prefer 1-2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment preferably injection molding presses (both electric & hydraulic).
