Responsibilities
- Prepare, package, and label medication in an accurate and efficient manner
- Compounding of sterile intravenous admixtures including hazardous, non-hazardous, and Investigational Drug Service medications
- Absorbent Triage incoming phone calls and electronic messages relating to medications
- Interact with professional and technical staff in a courteous manner
- Cleaning and restocking sterile compounding areas
- Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
- Investigational Drug Management
- Additional training requirements include (training provided during onboarding): CITI/human subjects, Aurora/Florence, Vestigo, Epic Willow Ambulatory Vestigo documentation
- Log into Vestigo program daily and complete any pharmacy tasks for their site
- Manage inventory of investigational product (IP), including independently ordering drug within scope of authority, receiving, organizing and monitoring the use of IP and following IDS destruction policy when applicable
- Maintain separate supplies of IP for trials that have this requirement
- May be asked to serve as a delegate on research study
- Inventory/Purchasing
- Responsible for ordering adequate drug for the site they work at
- Maintain adequate on-site drug inventory to meet patient needs
- Perform inventory outdates to check for any expired products
- Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Monitoring
- ADM when drug stock is out or running low
- Preparing stock for pharmacist check, restocking and completing documentation of ADM (i.e. Omnicell, Pyxis)
- E-boxes/crash Carts
- Complete regular e-boxes/code cart checks to ensure adequate drug stock and no expired drugs
- Prepare restocking of e-boxes and crash carts as needed for pharmacist final check and then complete restock
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Washington state pharmacy technician certification.
- 1 year pharmacy technician experience or completion of Fred Hutch pharmacy apprentice program
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
- Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently
- Knowledge and experience compounding sterile intravenous admixtures
- Knowledge and experience working with hazardous medications
- Knowledge of and experience with electronic medical records
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
