Infusion Nurse Practitioner – Phillips Family Cancer Center

About the role

The Nurse Practitioner will oversee chemotherapy infusion, injection, and oral medications, perform oncological procedures (e.g., line and portacath management), and ensure familiarity with chemotherapeutic agents, regimens, and therapy-related complications. The role involves interpreting laboratory and imaging results, collaborating with the primary medical oncologist, and supporting both administrative and clinical functions to advance patient care at the Med Onc Physician practice.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage chemotherapy infusions and related treatments.
• Manage infusion reactions, treatment-related toxicities, and administer appropriate interventions.
• Maintain, renew, and modify ongoing infusion chemotherapy orders per collaborating physician direction.
• Place and renew orders for non-chemotherapy infusions and injections as directed.
• Manage blood transfusion orders and coordinate pre-treatment radiological studies and procedures.
• Obtain patient consent for treatment when required by institutional policy.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, chemotherapy toxicities, expected side effects, and symptom management.
• Independently assess and evaluate patients presenting to the infusion center with new or progressive symptoms.
• Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory and radiology findings for infusion center patients.
• Manage outpatient phone calls regarding treatment-related toxicity.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts as needed.
• Prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope of practice.
• Support clinical trials by assessing patient eligibility, monitoring adverse events, and documenting research-related data.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and organizational objectives.

Requirements

• New York State Licensed Nurse Practitioner.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Medical Oncology.
• Current AED certification.
• Current BLS and ACLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to effectively interact with all members of the healthcare team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a clinical setting.
• Experience with chemotherapy administration.
• Proficiency with EMR systems, including Cerner/Powerchart.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged standing and walking.
• Assisting with lifting and helping patients in and out of infusion chairs.
• Considerable stooping, bending, and kneeling.
• Occasional travel to other locations to support operational needs.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
• Meet all Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range

$74,203.70 – $83,434.50
