Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Expected Starting Hourly Range: $23.67 - $31.95

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects horizontal infrastructure construction projects such as culverts, driveways, roadway grading, curbing, water mains, reclaimed water mains, force mains, and sanitary sewer mains to ensure full adherence to plans, specifications, standards, and regulations.
  • Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to plans, specifications, standards, and regulations. Reports deviations.
  • Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts.
  • Reads, interprets, and explains civil construction plans, record drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications related to area of assignment. Reports suspected deviations.
  • Confers with and advises contractors, property owners, architects, engineers, and the general public regarding interpretation and application of Manatee County and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, zoning ordinances, and other applicable codes.
  • Prepares and maintains necessary logs, records, and reports.
  • Makes decisions regarding approval of pay requests for assigned projects.
  • Performs all work in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and technical standards. Strictly adheres to safety procedures to protect self, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Attends job-specific training classes as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including participation in emergency or disaster response activities, as required and consistent with the employee’s qualifications, essential job functions, and applicable federal and Florida law.

Minimum Qualifications

  • All Levels - High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Non-Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Infrastructure Inspections Officer - Minimum of two (2) years technical and trades experience in the inspection of infrastructure and/or building construction work.
  • Senior Infrastructure Inspections Officer - Six (6) or more years of technical and trades experience in the inspection of infrastructure construction.
  • Mobile Video Training (MVT) Confined Space Entry.
  • Utilities Department - Level III Water Distribution License or Class C Wastewater Certification within 18 months of hire date. Valid Florida CDL Class A driver’s license with Tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire date.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications for this position.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, contractors, engineers, the general public, and other stakeholders.
  • Able to explain facts, policies, and practices.
  • Capable of working under moderate supervision.
