About the Role

The Infrastructure Engineer I is responsible for the operations of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers, and networks. This role involves installing, maintaining, upgrading, and continuously improving the Company’s operating environment while ensuring ongoing reliability, performance, and support of the infrastructure. Responsibilities include monitoring operating environments, responding to incidents, supporting on-call duties, and planning for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for lower-level employees.
  • Participate in and lead groups/committees related to processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Mentor and accept trouble reports from operations and less experienced technical support personnel.
  • Plan for the replacement of obsolete compute infrastructure resources.
  • Recommend new software and hardware, including preparing documentation to support these recommendations.
  • Coordinate and schedule the initial installation or reinstallation of equipment.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical and practical knowledge of system testing and analysis.
  • Ensure security in data management, including adherence to data retention policies, file systems, and data transfers.
  • Maintain vendor support agreements and ensure licensing is up-to-date.
  • Build, support, and maintain protection of company data and systems through security solutions, backups, redundancy, and disaster recovery.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and support of system software, hardware, and infrastructure for moderately complex projects.
  • Manage the asset lifecycle process, including planning and forecasting for replacement of obsolete or end-of-life resources.
  • Interact with external vendors to evaluate technology changes, including licensing and contracts.
  • Investigate and analyze resource utilization, prepare reports and metrics, and optimize infrastructure for performance and security.
  • Recommend improvements and changes to methods and procedures.
  • Partner with internal business clients to understand application context and usage for successful implementation.
  • Research and plan implementation of middleware upgrades, security patches, and bug fixes.
  • Assist development staff as the technical lead for development, test, and production environments.
  • Develop technical recovery plans and lead disaster recovery planning and exercises.
  • Produce periodic reports for management and staff.
  • Serve as a point of contact for middleware applications and manage vendor relationships.
  • Understand middleware infrastructure security tools within multi-cloud environments.
  • Follow industry best practices for maintaining multi-cloud workloads.
  • Leverage automation tools to script configuration changes for workload ecosystems.
  • Understand network security tools within multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Serve as a technical leader in the installation and configuration of enterprise-level applications and provide supporting documentation.
  • Provide scripting (Windows/Unix) as needed.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for supported infrastructure and applications.
  • Identify, track, resolve, and raise awareness of complex application and data issues.
  • Provide 24x7 support during on-call rotation.
  • Manage and maintain current Job Scheduler software (e.g., Tidal Workload Automation, Control-M).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field required. Combinations of relevant education and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification or progress toward an industry-recognized professional designation is preferred and encouraged.
  • Three to five years of experience within an IT environment providing necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • One year of relevant experience supporting personal computers in a multi-site, multi-platform environment and telephone support of remote staff is preferred.
  • Experience within the insurance industry is highly preferred.

  • Considerable knowledge of IT system installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle principles, processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of performance measuring and monitoring of IT systems.
  • Ability to apply independent logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to comprehend the consequences of various problem situations and refer them for appropriate decision-making.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, establish workflows, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate factual and technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for on-call schedules.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and company standard software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT systems, including networking, server, storage, and applications.
  • Ability to document and develop standard operating procedures for day-to-day activities.
  • Working knowledge of implementing, migrating, and upgrading middleware application platforms.
  • Ability to maintain and upgrade current Job Scheduling platforms and review/update calendars within them.

Pay

Actual compensation relies on consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills, professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. A reasonable estimate for this role is between $56,700 and $114,850.
