Hybrid role (3 days/week in office) at our Burlington, Renton, Spokane, Vancouver, Portland, Medford, Salt Lake City, Boise, Lewiston, or Fargo offices. Candidates must reside within commutable distance of that location or be willing to relocate.

About the role

Join our Cause to create a person-focused and economically sustainable health care system. As a member of the IT Architecture team, you will lead the architectural vision for high-availability storage and database systems, ensuring data integrity, robust encryption, and seamless disaster recovery. By embedding deep observability and automated telemetry across the stack, you will give us the real-time visibility needed to proactively defend platform health and guarantee systemic reliability.

Qualifications

Infrastructure Architect I

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related/relevant field plus seven years in IT with a minimum of two years of technical leadership and architecture experience.
  • Minimum of three years' experience evaluating business requirements and designing complete systems solutions in complex environments.
  • Strong business understanding including health insurance technologies and regulations.
  • Experience in the health insurance industry, payer-oriented processes, and systems is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Infrastructure Architect II

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related/relevant field with an advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven years in IT with a minimum of two years of technical leadership and architecture experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience evaluating business requirements and designing complete systems solutions in complex environments.
  • Strong business understanding including health insurance technologies and regulations.
  • Experience in the health insurance industry, payer-oriented processes, and systems is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated architecture experience in a single business unit, line of business, or single technology field.
  • Domain expert in one or more major platforms and relevant technologies, understanding how those platforms relate to overall technology infrastructure.
  • Comprehensive understanding of competitors' products and related technologies, and how they compare with existing technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex systems integration issues involving many disparate data sources, with experience in resolving them through clear direction on solution scope.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex, large-scale, or systems-level problems using team resources.
  • Proficient at writing code to solve a broad range of problems of varying complexity.
  • Demonstrated functional and technical skills, including the ability to architect effective solutions for a growing Software as a Service company.
  • Knowledge of Archimate and TOGAF, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Ability to apply verbal, written, and persuasive communication skills to influence others both individually and in groups.
  • Proficient in utilization of audio/visual tools to effectively present to groups and communicate technical information to other functions or groups.
  • Ability to successfully influence and lead project direction and work with peers to implement ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to work with business in their language to support and promote concepts.
  • Demonstrated high levels of personal output and ability to increase the productivity of the architecture function.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal savvy, relating well to all kinds of people in the organization regardless of level, and establishing trust and constructive relationships.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and use of rigorous logic to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated good decision quality, making sound decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
  • Capable of leading multiple product teams to implement product strategies throughout engineering and actively support and influence product family objectives.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills for large projects in a technological field with a high emphasis on communicative and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent negotiation skills with both internal and external groups, including the ability to settle differences with diplomacy and tact, and influence without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural Vision & Technical Strategy - Lead the architectural vision for resilient database and storage infrastructure across multiple product teams and deployment environments (cloud-native, on-premises, hybrid). Set technical strategy for high-availability systems and champion new technology implementations.
  • End-to-End Solution Design - Design and own comprehensive database and storage solutions, including transactional database design, storage architecture, performance tiering strategies, encryption, backup planning, and disaster recovery with defined RTO and RPO targets.
  • Resiliency, High Availability & Cyber Recovery - Establish and maintain enterprise standards for resiliency, defining fault-tolerance patterns, failover strategies, and high-availability configurations. Define standards for replication, immutability, cyber vaults, ransomware recovery, and disaster recovery integration.
  • Observability & Performance Management - Embed deep observability and automated telemetry across database and storage infrastructure to provide real-time visibility into platform health. Proactively identify and resolve performance, availability, and integrity risks.
  • Security & Compliance - Ensure database and storage infrastructure adheres to organizational and regulatory security standards, including encryption at rest and in transit, network segmentation, role-based access controls, and audit logging. Partner with Information Security teams to remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Capacity Planning & Forecasting - Conduct capacity planning assessments for storage, compute, and networking resources. Develop forecasting models to anticipate growth and prevent performance bottlenecks.
  • Reference Architecture & Governance - Develop and maintain reference architectures for standardized, repeatable patterns in database and storage infrastructure design. Serve as the authority for major infrastructure projects and data center modernization efforts.
  • Technology Roadmaps - Identify, evaluate, and maintain technology roadmaps for database and storage platforms, tools, and services. Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure infrastructure remains modern and aligned with business objectives.
  • Enterprise Architecture Alignment - Engage with the Enterprise Architecture team as the subject matter expert for database and storage infrastructure. Ensure strategies and standards align with broader enterprise architecture principles.
  • Delivery Excellence & Project Oversight - Accurately estimate resources and timelines for implementations. Audit project status to ensure technical and process excellence, maintaining high standards for data integrity and system reliability.

Pay

Infrastructure Architect I

  • Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho: Expected hiring range is $114K - $143K, full salary range is $114K - $186K, bonus target is 15%.
  • North Dakota: Expected hiring range is $113K - $150K, full hiring range is $113K - $187K/year.

Infrastructure Architect II

  • Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho: Expected hiring range is $140K - $175K, full salary range is $140K - $228K, bonus target is 20%.
  • North Dakota: Expected hiring range is $130K - $171K, full hiring range is $130K - $214K/year.
