Information Literacy Librarian

Job Summary

Responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of the following major library activities: information literacy instruction and tools and research services. Participates in library assessment planning and data collection. With other professional staff, sets library-wide policies, determines library directions, and develops appropriate performance measures.

Responsibilities

• Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University Ideal Characteristics.
• Participate in library assessment activities including planning, measurement, and analysis of data.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of library resources and services assessment and provide recommendations.
• Lead, present, and coordinate library information literacy instruction.
• Work with faculty to provide information literacy sessions.
• Participate in digital and print collection development activities, and act as library liaison with the faculty in assigned academic areas.
• Lead reference staffing and tracking.
• Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
• Develop, update, and publish information literacy guides and other resources in all formats for the Franco Library.
• Train and manage a graduate assistant to populate and monitor all aspects of the library’s social media presence.
• Hire, train and supervise the library’s Graduate Assistants.
• Maintain library's webpage.
• Aid in technical services operations.
• Engage with the university community through committee work, displays, service activities, etc.
• Create and maintain library’s information literacy video collection.

Qualifications

• Ambition to uphold the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
• A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Experience in reference services, information literacy instruction, and library assessment and data collection.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
• Ability to adapt and lead in a changing library environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Ability to effectively supervise student workers.
