About the role

We are seeking an experienced Information Governance & Privacy Compliance Attorney to lead our Firm’s information governance compliance efforts. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, this role will collaborate with IT, Litigation Support, Innovation, and other administrative leadership teams.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the development and oversight of the Firm’s information governance framework, ensuring operational feasibility and consistent implementation.
  • Draft and implement policies and procedures related to information governance, security, privacy, and data handling.
  • Partner with IT, Security, Litigation Support, Innovation, and other stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of professional responsibility for confidential, privileged, personal, and sensitive information.
  • Manage procedures for implementing client-specific data handling requests.
  • Provide legal counsel on privacy, security, and data transfer regulations, both domestically and internationally.
  • Participate in reviewing and providing guidance on data management and security considerations of new systems, cloud platforms, AI tools, vendors, and data workflows.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving legal, regulatory, client, and industry best practices related to privacy, AI tools, and information governance, and assist in translating these into practical operational guidance and training.
  • Support internal and vendor/third-party data risk reviews, audits, remediation tracking, and related compliance initiatives, prioritizing risks and facilitating practical implementation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain governance processes and centralized repositories for information governance, privacy, security, and related policies, ensuring materials are documented, accessible, and maintained for consistency, accountability, operational efficiency, and institutional knowledge.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • J.D., licensed to practice in New York, D.C., Connecticut, or California.
  • Significant experience in information governance, privacy compliance, security advising, records management, risk management, or related functions.
  • Experience working in a law firm, corporate legal department, professional services firm, or similar environment.
  • Experience advising on the security of various AI and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies, procedures, workflows, and training materials.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to build credibility across legal, administrative, and technical teams.
  • Hands-on, practical approach with willingness to participate directly in implementation and operational work when needed.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation practices.

Position Details

  • This is a full-time, benefits eligible, exempt level position.
  • The final rate of pay will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, with a targeted hiring range of $170,000 – $235,000 annually (the upper range reserved for highly qualified applicants).
  • This position is currently available in our CT, DC, and NY office locations.
