Informatics Pharmacist
About the role
The Informatics Pharmacist at LCMC Health assists with the build, implementation, integration, and maintenance of automation and technology to ensure safe and appropriate use of medications and to optimize pharmacy practice and pharmacy systems. They participate in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of technology related to the medication use process, collaborate with practitioners to identify and facilitate improvements for all available technologies within the medication use process, and ensure the appropriateness of medication therapy according to professional standards and practices.
Responsibilities
- Routinely interacts with staff to determine system changes, workflow enhancements, and optimization for all available technologies.
- Serves as a resource for technology-related questions/issues and supports staff.
- Participates in the orientation, education, and mentoring of new staff as needed.
- Designs and implements quality improvement changes to the organization’s medication use system with utilization of available technology.
- Troubleshoots and analyzes problems to identify and understand the spectrum of possible solutions and generate designs that capture essential aspects of solutions and their components.
- Initiates steps in advance to reduce the risk of a problem, e.g., testing before a new release or system upgrade.
- Aids the pharmacy leadership in the advancement of pharmacy automation and technology.
- Ensures pharmacy and medication-related systems are compliant with and support regulatory guidelines.
- Assists pharmacy operations with optimizing Automated Dispensing Cabinets and is responsible for activities related to hardware and software upgrades.
Requirements
- Experience Qualifications: 1 year of experience in information technology/clinical systems or 2 years with pharmacy technology systems. (TOURO)
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting; Automatic Dispensing Cabinet database administration. (UMC)
Qualifications
- Education Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy (UMC/TOURO)
- Preferred: Residency in Informatics or IT (TOURO)
