About the role

The Infection Prevention Specialist LPN assists with organizing and administering areas of Resident Care Services and infection prevention to attain person-centered care and the facility’s objectives. Monitors to ensure that programs and procedures are developed to assess, evaluate, and meet the resident's needs under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Implements standards of nursing practice in infection prevention, reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice and resident population.
  • Assists with the provision of nursing services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Ensures clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures are available to assist staff and minimize risk factors in infection prevention.
  • Tracks and trends infections, antibiotic stewardship, hand hygiene, and vaccinations (Influenza, Pneumococcal, and Covid).
  • Provides licensed care to assigned residents as ordered by a physician and in accordance with facility, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Provides required resident assessments, observations, and interventions, reviewing care plans to ensure appropriate care.
  • Charts nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided as well as the resident’s response to the care.
  • Communicates and reports information to residents, resident families, physicians, guardians, governmental agencies, and facility personnel as required by facility policy and State/Federal guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with infection control standards; immediately corrects/addresses identified instances of non-compliance.
  • Follows and adheres to company policies and procedures regarding HIPAA compliance.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
  • Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Long-Term care experience preferred.

Skills

  • Must be CPR trained and possess a current BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Serves as the expert in Infection Prevention.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understands and follows infection control standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling, with or without the aid of mechanical devices.
  • Ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards.
  • Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
