About the role
An Infection Preventionist is responsible for implementing and monitoring infection control measures in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surveillance to identify and classify infectious diseases, monitor hospital-acquired infection trends, and investigate clusters using epidemiological principles.
- Perform infection prevention rounds, collaborate with departments to mitigate risks, and ensure regulatory compliance with agencies like Joint Commission and OSHA.
- Communicate with public health authorities, maintain documentation, and promote quality care through staff collaboration.
- Develop, implement, and update infection control policies and procedures; educate staff through orientation and ongoing training using adult learning principles.
- Work closely with Employee Health for infection strategies, handle on-call responsibilities, and review laboratory reports.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, or Public Health; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years in infectious diseases or related field; infection prevention experience preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and adult education principles.
- Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or CIC certification within two years of hire.
