About the role
AMG Specialty Hospital - Albuquerque seeks a Full Time Infection Control Nurse/Educator (RN) who is a qualified individual with knowledge of CDC guidelines and definitions of healthcare associated infections (HAIs), federal and state regulations. He/She is responsible for the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention and control of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) among patients and personnel. By authority of the Infection Control Committee, she/he may institute collection of cultures and initiate appropriate isolation precautions. She/He is responsible for assisting with in-service programs related to infection prevention and control.
Concerning Employee Health, he/she is responsible for attending to all employee work related injuries and recommending appropriate action, as well as communicating with the risk manager any trends in the workplace. He/she is also responsible for pre-employment medical screening tests, as well as annual recurring screens. Also, he/she serves as a liaison to the worker’s compensation carrier for our facility. He/she is responsible for development and implementation of the hospital’s Utilization Review plan.
Responsibilities
- Identify, investigate, report, prevent, and control healthcare associated infections (HAIs) among patients and personnel
- Institute collection of cultures and initiate appropriate isolation precautions by authority of the Infection Control Committee
- Assist with in-service programs related to infection prevention and control
- Attend to all employee work-related injuries and recommend appropriate action
- Communicate workplace injury trends to the risk manager
- Conduct pre-employment medical screening tests and annual recurring screens
- Serve as a liaison to the worker’s compensation carrier
- Develop and implement the hospital’s Utilization Review plan
Requirements
- Current RN license with BSN preferred, OR Masters in Public Health (MPH), OR certified medical technologist, OR a bachelor’s degree in microbiology or epidemiology
- Minimum three (3) years experience in a supervisory position in healthcare or one (1) to three (3) years in infection control
- Member of the Association of Practitioners of Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and must complete APIC training course or equivalent
- Working knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, aseptic techniques, and current practices
- Current CPR Certification and a willingness to renew
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred
