Industry X - Senior OT Architect | Senior Manager
About the role
We Are Accenture's Industry X practice works at the intersection of operational technology and digital transformation. We help manufacturers modernize their plant floor systems, connect their OT and IT environments, and unlock value from the data their operations already generate. Our teams work directly in production facilities alongside controls engineers, plant managers, and IT leadership to design and deliver solutions that improve throughput, reduce downtime, and build the digital infrastructure that modern manufacturing requires.
Responsibilities
- Assess clients' current manufacturing technology landscapes, including MES, SCADA, PLC, DCS, and historian systems, and define target state architectures that bridge OT and IT.
- Design integration architectures across ISA 95 levels, addressing connectivity from the shop floor through the enterprise, including edge, on-premise, and cloud components.
- Develop digital manufacturing roadmaps grounded in technical feasibility, sequencing investments against operational constraints like production uptime, legacy system dependencies, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Translate plant floor operational needs into solution designs that engineering, IT, and business stakeholders can align on.
- Develop business cases that quantify the value of manufacturing technology modernization, including OEE improvement, quality gains, and reduced unplanned downtime.
- Lead small delivery teams through full lifecycle implementation, from requirements and design through commissioning and hypercare in live production environments.
- Serve as the technical authority on engagements, guiding clients through vendor selection, platform decisions, and build vs. buy tradeoffs.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years working in or with manufacturing environments, with direct exposure to plant floor operations, production systems, and industrial infrastructure.
- Minimum 5 years designing or delivering integration architectures across ERP, MES, PLC, SCADA, HMI, and DCS systems.
- Prior role as Controls Engineer, Plant Systems Architect, Industrial Automation Architect, Smart Manufacturing Architect, OT Architect, IIoT Architect, or Digital Plant Lead.
- Proven experience architecting solutions for manufacturing use cases such as predictive maintenance, quality inspection, production scheduling, digital twin, or overall equipment effectiveness optimization.
- Working knowledge of ISA 95 and ISA 88 frameworks, industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, PROFINET), and how data moves from Level 0 through Level 4.
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles, including network segmentation, Purdue Model concepts, and IEC 62443 awareness.
- Demonstrated experience deploying or piloting AI/ML solutions in manufacturing contexts.
- Ability to communicate complex technical architectures clearly to plant engineers, IT leadership, and executive stakeholders.
- Experience building business cases and presenting transformation recommendations to senior client leadership.
- Experience designing hybrid edge to cloud architectures for latency sensitive or air gapped manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience deploying AWS, Azure, or GCP solutions in industrial contexts.
- Familiarity with microservices architectures, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), or serverless computing patterns.
- Experience with digital thread or digital twin platforms and their application in production environments.
- Commissioned systems on plant floors, led factory acceptance testing, or managed integration across both brownfield and greenfield environments.

Skills
- Fluent in the language of OT, from PLCs and SCADA to MES and historian systems, and equally comfortable navigating legacy protocols like Modbus, PROFINET, and OPC UA as you are designing modern edge to cloud integration architectures.
- Understanding how data flows across ISA 95 levels, and solving the hard problems that come with brownfield environments: aging infrastructure, proprietary systems, and the organizational divide between IT and OT.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical architectures that actually work in production, and doing it more than once.
- Clear communication skills with plant engineers, IT teams, and executive stakeholders.
