Position Summary

The Industrial Service Tech 3 is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the ammonia refrigeration system and related equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains ammonia systems, including engine room operations, vessel management, and evacuations.
  • Maintains steam/boiler systems, condensate recovery, culinary steam requirements.
  • Maintains refrigeration systems, including ammonia/CO₂/glycol, chilled water, pressure vessels.
  • Maintains compressed air (oil-free, high-pressure), nitrogen, and industrial gases.
  • Maintains hygienic air handling, water treatment, and effluent treatment.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and logs ammonia systems pressures and temperatures.
  • Fulfills CMMS work orders.
  • Repairs and maintains all refrigeration related equipment including compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, vessels, and piping.
  • Repairs and maintains the glycol system associated with the refrigeration system including pumps, valves, tanks, and piping.
  • Repairs and maintains the steam boiler and related equipment and piping.
  • Repairs and installs evaporator condensate drains.
  • Maintains HVAC systems based on CMMS or instructions given.
  • Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes.
  • Ensures all work activities are performed with the highest standards for quality, safety, and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensures all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are followed.
  • Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place.
  • Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Expert operation and troubleshooting of multiple utilities systems including ammonia systems, steam/boiler systems, refrigeration systems, compressed air systems, and industrial gases.
    • Mastery of hazard-based programs including Ammonia Safety Management, Boiler House Safety Management, Hazardous Gas Safety Management, Legionella & potable water systems, Pressure Vessel compliance, and PSM.
    • Experience leading root-cause analysis for energy, reliability, and utilities performance issues.
    • Provides recommendations for reliability improvements and system upgrades.
    • Able to interpret P&IDs, one-line diagrams, schematics, and write URS-level technical requirements.
    • Mentorship & Training: Can coach Levels 1–3 technicians through classroom, skill training, and hands-on demonstration (HOD). Acts as a factory SME supporting project teams, audits, commissioning, and change control.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Regularly stands, walks, talks, hears, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequently sits; reaches with hands and arms; climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, or smells. Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts and/or moves 51 - 100 pounds with lifting equipment or with assistance. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift and/or move 51 - 100 pounds with lifting equipment or with assistance.
  • Work Environment: Plant production environment. Occasional exposure to airborne particles. Exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures that range from below zero (0) degrees Fahrenheit to over ninety (90) degrees Fahrenheit. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Required to utilize the required personal protective equipment.

Organizational Structure

The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic will report directly to the Manager Industrial Services.

The approximate pay for this position is $42.50 - $44/hr. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
