Responsibilities
- Lead industrial construction projects from early client engagement and preconstruction through project completion and closeout.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, design partners, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee design-build project delivery, including conceptual estimating, budgeting, design coordination, constructability reviews, scope development, and subcontractor and vendor buyout.
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project schedules using appropriate scheduling tools, ensuring projects remain on or ahead of schedule.
- Own and manage project budgets of $10M+ and ensure strong financial performance through forecasting, cost controls, and change order management.
- Lead preconstruction planning activities, including risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and construction logistics planning.
- Direct contract administration, including subcontractor management, compliance, documentation, and alignment with project objectives.
- Manage project safety and quality performance, promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Cook up multi-disciplinary project teams, including Project Managers, Project Engineers, field staff, design partners, and trade contractors.
- Plan and allocate project resources effectively to meet schedule, budget, and quality goals.
- Oversee revenue and margin management, ensuring projects meet or exceed financial targets.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans to protect schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
- Resolve project challenges proactively, make independent decisions, and keep stakeholders informed of key issues and resolutions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, embodying a “first call” philosophy where clients rely on you for ongoing and future projects.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership to less experienced project team members, supporting their professional growth and development.
- Engage in business development activities by leveraging industry expertise, supporting pursuits, and helping to grow the industrial business unit.
- Prepare and deliver project reports, updates, and presentations to executive-level stakeholders and clients.
- Utilize construction management software platforms for project scheduling, financial tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Support industrial expansions, retrofits, capital expenditure projects, facility modernizations, and production line upgrades within active industrial environments.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of progressive construction project management experience, including responsibility for industrial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Proven industrial construction project management experience, including work in manufacturing, food processing, food distribution, cold storage, chemical, or similar industrial environments.
- Strong design-build project delivery experience from concept through closeout, including early client engagement, design coordination, constructability reviews, scope development, and buyout.
- Experience managing projects valued at $10M or more with direct ownership of schedule, budget, safety, quality, and client relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex industrial projects independently with minimal executive oversight.
- Proficiency with construction scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Experience using construction management platforms such as Procore, CMiC, or similar systems.
- Solid knowledge of contract administration, subcontractor management, risk mitigation, and schedule management.
- Proven ability to serve as the primary client-facing leader throughout the project lifecycle.
- Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to mentor Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field staff.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, including executive-level stakeholder management.
- Ability to identify risks, solve problems, and drive project profitability while maintaining client satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in food processing facilities, food distribution facilities, and cold storage facilities.
- Experience with manufacturing facilities, chemical or process facilities, and industrial warehouse and distribution facilities.
- Experience delivering industrial expansions, retrofits, capital expenditure projects, facility modernizations, and production line upgrades.
- Owner-side or end-user project management experience within industrial environments.
- Experience leading projects from pursuit and preconstruction through final closeout.
- Comfort working as the primary client-facing leader, representing the project team and organization.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand industrial clients’ operational challenges and constraints.
- Credibility and familiarity when interacting with industrial clients, particularly in manufacturing and processing environments.
- Desire to help grow and develop an industrial business unit and contribute to strategic direction.
