About the role

The Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator (IP Coordinator) oversees the Industrial Pretreatment Program, ensuring compliance with City Sewer Use Ordinances and regulatory requirements. This position involves managing compliance inspections and sampling of industrial users, maintaining laboratory operations, and preparing reports and permits.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the Industrial Pretreatment Program and supervises technicians.
  • Schedules and manages compliance inspections and sampling of industrial users.
  • Manages laboratory operations, including calibration of instrumentation and preparation of samples.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual IP reports and industrial wastewater discharge permits.
  • Evaluates testing and inspection data for compliance and prepares enforcement actions.
  • Attends IP audits and maintains IU records and monitoring data.
  • Interprets local, state, and federal regulations and implements regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates enforcement actions and distributes permit documents.
  • Prepares and distributes enforcement orders and reports non-conformance events.
  • Develops and implements SOPs and compliance evaluation protocols.
  • Trains IP technicians and schedules outside training sessions.
  • Reviews IP technician performance and assists in special projects.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Preferred experience in wastewater operator training and/or laboratory experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret City Ordinances, Discharge Permits, State and Federal Codes, Technical Manuals, and Journals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and chemical industrial concepts and processes.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communications.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record (for field work).
