Responsibilities
- Collaborative Prototyping: Work closely other designers and engineers to interpret their designs into physical representations. Create 3d printed prototypes and mock-ups for evaluation and development.
- Ideation and Problem Solving: Support Industrial Design projects with 2d ideation and physical stimulus.
- Method Selection: Select appropriate methods for building models based on design requirements, timelines and budgets. Address design challenges by developing creative solutions and refining models during the prototyping phase.
- Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy, precision, and quality of models, adhering to design specifications and tolerances.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols when using tools, machinery, and handling materials.
Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision equipment. Experience with Solidworks, 3d printer software, Adobe suite.
- Equipment Management: FDM, laser cutting, SLA, casting, and Polyjet printers.
- Attention to Detail: Strong eye for detail and craftsmanship to ensure models are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally accurate.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to solve design and fabrication problems creatively and efficiently.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, designers, and clients to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality models.
- Time Management: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Qualifications (continued)
- Education & Experience: A degree or certification in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience in a model-making or prototyping role is highly desirable. Experience with various materials (plastics, metals, wood, foam, etc.) and techniques (casting, molding, 3D printing) is beneficial.
Work Environment
- Physical Demands: This job may require standing for extended periods, lifting moderate to heavy materials, and using fine motor skills for intricate work.
- Workplace: Model Makers typically work in a workshop or studio environment, with exposure to dust, fumes, and noise from tools and machinery.
