About the role
The Operations Associate is a team member responsible for daily monitoring and processing of materials to add value for customers. The role involves working with a team to ensure materials are handled appropriately and customers receive the best service.
Hiring range: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Operates industrial equipment including balers, forklifts, grinders, and other machinery to process and load recycling materials for collection and transportation.
- Processes production scrap, sorts materials, and bales cardboard and plastic film.
- Loads finished products onto trailers while following safe loading procedures.
- Ensures proper packaging of food waste and recycling into compliant containers per transport regulations and disposal/recycling site requirements.
- Attends all safety trainings, reports incidents or near misses, and wears required PPE to maintain workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Creates and manages shipping paperwork such as Bill-of-Lading, Packing List, Trailer Checklist, and Waste Manifests.
- Generates packing lists for outbound loads and documents weights for each item loaded onto trailers.
- Communicates challenges or inquiries to the Operations Supervisor as needed.
- Uses workplace experience to generate and present ideas for program improvement.
- May operate a 22ft box truck or a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.
- Participates in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of company products, sales, and services.
- Performs additional duties as needed to support company vision, mission, and core values.
Career Path
- Associate: Demonstrates high performance in attendance, safety, productivity, and customer service. Completes necessary training and executes basic job functions, including preparing trailers per DOT requirements, completing paperwork, and performing material separation.
- Senior Associate: Achieves high performance in attendance, safety, productivity, and customer service, including forklift certification and pre/post inspections. Manages the scrap floor, identifies improvement opportunities, and communicates leads. Develops relationships with site contractors and uses strategic account teams when relevant.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0-2 years of manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- 6-12 months of equipment operations experience is helpful.
- Valid driver’s license and legal eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Physical ability to lift 30 lbs frequently and 65 lbs several times a day, stand for 8 hours, and work extended hours if needed.
Qualifications
- Excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of equipment operation such as forklifts, grinders, and box trucks.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and Microsoft Office is helpful.
