About the role

This part-time (20 hours per week) position is responsible for performing all preventative, on-demand, and improvement maintenance activities at Envigo RMS LLC – Teklad Custom and Standard Diet production facilities. The role also includes the upkeep, ongoing maintenance, and improvement of safety and security equipment. The position reports to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance or designee.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the implementation and maintenance of the facility’s health & safety program.
  • Perform safe, timely, and cost-effective preventative maintenance for all buildings, grounds, and equipment in compliance with the established quality management system and facility’s health & safety program.
  • Perform safe, timely, and cost-effective repair of buildings and replacement of equipment on-demand.
  • Troubleshoot (mechanical, HVAC, and electrical) and repair process equipment to ensure safe and timely function and availability.
  • Practice effective communication with production, shipping, and receiving employees regarding equipment or building repair schedules, completion, and availability.
  • Train other maintenance technicians and selected production co-workers in preventative and repair maintenance work.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of electrical, HVAC, and mechanical industrial maintenance work experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Industrial Maintenance professional designation, including state-recognized trades such as Industrial Mechanic/Millwright or Master Electrician (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree or other advanced degree in engineering (helpful but not required).

Skills

  • Accomplished oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on industrial maintenance experience (multiple years) in electrical, mechanical, material fabrication, and plumbing.
  • Ability to oversee and review the work of lower-level technicians.
  • Work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Experience in continuous improvement environments (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, ISO quality systems).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Mathematic skills, including geometric and volumetric calculations.
  • Aptitude to comprehend solid and liquid process flow.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb. objects to shoulder height.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs and vertical ladders.
  • Ability to enter designated confined spaces to perform inspection and repair work.
