About the role

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled maintenance, fabrication, overhaul and repair of mechanical equipment located within a water, wastewater, pump stations, lift stations and treatment facilities working under direct supervision in diagnosing problems and facilitating repairs. This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews system designs, specifications, and products, attends pre-construction meetings, and recommends changes in water/wastewater facilities mechanical systems;
  • Troubleshoots problems and recommends corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices;
  • Performs preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater facilities and equipment;
  • Fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment;
  • Welds steel, brass and aluminum;
  • Operates lathes, mill/drill presses, welders and various other metal working power and hand tools;
  • Locates leaks and detects defects in water/wastewater equipment and machinery according to established plans and standards;
  • Maintains and monitors SCADA systems, inputs and gathers data, and runs reports as necessary;
  • Maintains quality control of processes and ensures adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; two years of experience in industrial maintenance preferably in a water and/or wastewater treatment facility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Qualifications

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Skills

Skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices, ability to fabricate and machine repair parts, welding skills, proficiency with metalworking tools, leak detection, defect detection, SCADA system operation and maintenance, quality control, adherence to safety standards.
