About the role
The Industrial Maintenance Technician position requires performing dual craft (mechanical and electrical) maintenance tasks to ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical and mechanical equipment. The position is a senior craftsman level job in the mechanical discipline, with a basic understanding and aptitude in the electrical discipline.
Responsibilities
- Support ESH Compliance:
- Follow all plant safety procedures.
- Complete all regulatory ES&H training.
- Complete all proper ES&H permits required for job.
- Complete and participate in the use of JHAs.
- Comply with ISO/cGMP/HACCP.
- Comply with all Food Safety requirements as they relate to Maintenance.
- Maintain plant safety interlocks.
- Interpret and troubleshoot controls (PLC) & instrumentation hardware and logic in a safe manner.
- Hoisting and rigging of electrical equipment.
- Intimate knowledge of electrical safety practices, including NFPA 70E.
- Participate in HOP Learning Groups.
- Communications:
- Communicate with operations, maintenance, and technical personnel.
- Enter emergency work orders on off-shifts.
- Provide feedback on work orders and PMs.
- Use technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering sketches, as required.
- Act as maintenance representative on plant projects.
- Enlist the help of subject matter experts, when required.
- Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose mechanic and electrical problems and make necessary repairs.
- Ability to interpret P&ID drawings.
- Knowledge of circuits, wiring, loop, and control drawings per electrical qualifications.
- Watch for irregularities in equipment operation, correct where possible and advise supervisor of defects needing attention.
- Help train operations on monitoring and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Develop understanding of plant process equipment.
- Troubleshoot and take corrective actions for electrical motors and motor systems.
- As qualified, troubleshoot all components related to plant controls system.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Inspect equipment per the PM work instructions.
- Completely fill out PM record.
- Provide feedback on PM sheets and equipment conditions to maintenance supervisor and maintenance planner, as necessary.
- Repair and New Construction:
- Lay-out, assemble, and install mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation lines and equipment of all kinds from complex blueprints, diagrams and rough sketches.
- As qualified, troubleshoot and correct plant controls systems and instrumentation. Work with Controls Engineer for PLC programming changes.
- Take ownership for plant process reliability as it relates to mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Perform a large of variety of mechanical and/or electrical work, as required by operations and maintenance/capital projects.
- Understand mechanical drives.
- Understand mechanical and pneumatic conveying.
- Knowledge of centrifugal pumps (repair and rebuild).
- General and specific welding expertise.
- Fabricate equipment.
- Perform pipe fitting work – screwed and welded.
- Work on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Work on all types of electrical equipment, such as motors, drives, controls systems, instrumentation, switches, automated valves, and wiring.
- Perform structural work.
- Perform lubrication duties.
- Align and balance equipment.
- Operate mechanical and electrical maintenance equipment.
- Quality Control:
- Follow maintenance procedures.
- Develop understanding of materials of construction and suitability.
- Prevent product contamination through good manufacturing practices.
- Complete housekeeping in assigned areas keeping with ISO standards.
- Follow cGMP requirements for the area.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety system requirements.
- Inform supervision of any irregularities that may impact food safety, quality, and/or ES&H.
- General Plant Responsibilities:
- Maintain housekeeping standards.
- Access documentation through plant document management system.
- Put in time using payroll software.
- Complete all required training courses.
- Assist in the training of new maintenance personnel.
- Participate in plant initiatives related to ES&H, projects, etc.
- Commit and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance.
- Successful completion of Mechanical and Electrical selection processes.
- Able to safely exit the plant in case of an emergency.
- Have the physical ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. further than 10 feet on a frequent basis.
