About the role

The Maintenance Manager leads the site Maintenance department in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance services on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. The role involves planning, scheduling, and timely completion of work to enhance the facility's operational effectiveness, implement improvement plans, and ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of the maintenance team.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically develop and contribute to the creation and implementation of best practices for the maintenance department.
  • Utilize the company’s vision, strategies, policies, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance.
  • Contribute to company goals, projects, and strategic initiatives that positively impact the Maintenance department and facility.
  • Schedule, train, supervise, and motivate employees of the maintenance department.
  • Coordinate work performed by outside vendors.
  • Ensure efficient repair schedules and review repair cost estimates.
  • Prioritize the maintenance and repairs of company equipment and parts.
  • Control and monitor inventory.
  • Effectively delegate all maintenance issues on each shift to the appropriate team member for effective planning and resolution.
  • Manage and maintain periodic checks to ensure operational efficiencies.
  • Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule by ensuring preventative maintenance is planned, carried out, and delivered effectively.
  • Schedule both internal and external work(s) maximizing planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime.
  • Optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality.
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Develop clear accountability for maintenance material spending combined with a strategy to manage expenditure.
  • Manage systems, equipment data storage, and maintain high levels of standards.
  • Ensure that the introduction of new machinery is a seamless process as to avoid unnecessary downtime to the departments.
  • Properly evaluate all equipment for operational efficiency and determine which ones will need replacing and/or updating in order to maintain operational effectiveness.
  • Manage the process of obsolete machinery and plant equipment ensuring its safe and lawful disposal.
  • Undertake continuous training and development.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise to the team.
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill, resources, and systems to ensure the proper completion of projects to include the engagement of external resources.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
  • Manage sub-contractors on site to ensure they operate under the legal confines of OSHA and company requirements.
  • Ensure that the maintenance team provides a safe and healthy environment to all employees, staff, sub-contractors, and visitors.
  • People Management: Coach, counsel, and develop a high performing Maintenance team that meets objectives, delivers best practices, adds value, and continuously improves.
  • Set realistic and achievable goals for the maintenance department.
  • Properly review, provide feedback, and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
  • Promote high standards of performance through personal example and ensure that each team member knows the performance expectations.
  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Motivate and coach the team to operational success.
  • Monitor the completion of tasks to ensure good performance and record keeping on appropriate systems.
  • View, edit, and audit the time keeping system to ensure proper compensation for work performed by the maintenance team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to interface well with all employees of the Company and to represent the Company in a highly professional manner.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Must be multi-task oriented.

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
