Essential Duties
- Able to calibrate meters and pumps to ensure accurate sampling.
- Able to download data from all types of data logging equipment.
- Can read and understand an IH sampling plan and sample physical and chemical stressors, complete IH data sheets, and send samples to lab.
- Conduct indoor air quality – IAQ- studies and document results.
- Use instrumentation to provide quantitative data to assess the space.
- Possess the skills necessary to produce reports in Word, complete data sheets, chain of custody reports for the lab, enter data into Excel and complete Excel tables.
- Conduct safety and health evaluations and tests to note if ventilation, personal protective equipment, lighting and other conditions are adequate to protect workers.
- Contact clients to confirm location for sampling, work with administrative staff to book all travel arrangements, assure sample plan is met.
Skills and Experience
- Able to use all types of industrial hygiene equipment and download information from the meters.
- Ability to draft reports of sampling and build tables to record data from the IH sampling.
- Understand the sampling media used for each type of sampling and select the correct media for all types of chemical agents.
- Respond to emergencies, select the appropriate IH equipment to sample and provide accurate data.
- Act independently of supervision and make decisions based on real time data and activities occurring in the field.
- Reliable can organize work priorities to complete tasks within constricted time frames.
- Be able to apply for credentials like a TWIC card and take tests to allow entry into customer facilities.
- When a sampling issue comes up in the field be able to adapt and get solutions to equipment deficiencies, lack of media or special jobs that arise.
- Fix gear in the field and adapt when accessories were left at the lab.
- Enter data into Excel and be able to extract tables, employee notification letters and other reports.
- Draft a report for review by CIH.
- Adapt and be willing to learn new skills which are required by our customers.
Working Environment
- Indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
- May be frequently exposed to cold, hot, wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration.
- Works in customer environment.
- May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and traffic.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Education Requirements
- BS in safety, industrial hygiene or technical science.
- Possess or be willing to take exams for GSP, ASP. CSP, CIH and CHMM
- 2-5 years of field IH experience minimum, preferably in oil and gas and refining with technical classes taken during the work period.
- In lieu of a BS degree 8+ years of IH field work experience would be considered.
