About the role
This full-time position supports complex construction and infrastructure projects within a federal environment. The role involves hands-on fieldwork, exposure assessment oversight, technical documentation review, and proactive hazard identification across dynamic job sites. The selected candidate will ensure occupational health compliance, implement exposure monitoring strategies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to protect worker health in high-hazard construction settings.
Responsibilities
- Perform project oversight inspections from an industrial hygiene perspective on active construction and infrastructure projects.
- Conduct industrial hygiene hazard assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate chemical, physical, and biological exposure risks.
- Develop and implement appropriate sampling strategies for airborne contaminants, noise, and other occupational health hazards.
- Execute field assessments and worksite audits focused on occupational health and environmental safety compliance.
- Review safety plans, health exposure assessments, and technical documentation for completeness and regulatory alignment.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, exposure monitoring, sampling results, and corrective action recommendations.
- Support implementation of exposure control strategies using the hierarchy of controls.
- Participate in project meetings, pre-construction briefings, and safety planning sessions.
- Collaborate with field teams, management, and EH&S personnel to promote a strong occupational health culture.
- Must be physically capable of climbing ladders/stairs, working in varying environmental conditions, and operating a motor vehicle for job site access.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medicine, or a related physical or biological science.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-time industrial hygiene experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal, DOE, or DOD projects.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, and applicable occupational health regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently in field environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with project teams and stakeholders.
