Industrial Firefighter/Emergency Response Technician, BlueOval Battery Park Michigan, PACK

About the role

BlueOval Battery Park Michigan seeks an experienced and skilled firefighter to join our team. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, innovation, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Fire Suppression: Respond to fires, operate firefighting equipment, conduct search and rescue operations, perform ventilation, overhaul, and salvage operations.
• Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Response: Identify and contain hazardous materials, use appropriate PPE, understand chemical properties, perform decontamination procedures.
• Medical Aid: Provide immediate pre-hospital medical care, stabilize patients, assist EMS personnel.
• Technical Rescue: Participate in specialized rescue operations, utilize specialized rescue tools, ensure safety protocols are adhered to.
• Emergency Standby & Hot Work Coverage: Provide dedicated fire and safety coverage, ensure safety protocols are strictly followed.
• Incident Command System (ICS) Support: Operate within ICS structure, follow orders, provide clear status reports.
• Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain fire prevention equipment, perform routine maintenance on fire apparatus and tools.
• Facility Inspections: Conduct fire safety inspections, identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with regulations.
• Pre-Incident Planning: Develop and review pre-incident plans, understand building layouts, process flow diagrams, and emergency routes.
• Permit System Compliance: Review and verify compliance for permits, ensure all conditions are met.
• Risk Assessment: Identify and assess risks related to fire and other emergencies.
• Safety Adherence: Strictly adhere to company policies, SOPs, and safety regulations.
• Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of firefighting supplies, HazMat absorbents, medical supplies, and rescue equipment.
• Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs, drills, and exercises, maintain physical fitness.
• Internal Training Support: Assist in developing and delivering fire safety and emergency preparedness training.
• Incident Reporting: Document incidents, near-misses, inspections, training activities, and equipment maintenance.
• Effective Constructive Communication: Use communication skills to resolve issues, focus on the issue not the person.
• Shift Handovers: Conduct thorough handovers at the end of shifts, ensuring critical information and pending tasks are communicated.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II certification (or equivalent state/provisional certification).
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of emergency services experience as a certified firefighter.
• Previous Emergency Services experience or combination of previous work experience and training equivalent.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills under pressure.
• Excellent decision-making abilities in high-stress situations.
• Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to pass a NFPA firefighter physical.
• Acute attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Ability to strictly follow instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols.
• Exceptional computer skills, reading, and data interpretation.
• Comfortable learning new technology.
• Legally authorized to work in the US.

Qualifications

• Preferred: NFPA 472/1072 Hazardous Materials Operations Certification.
• Preferred: EMT-B or higher certification.
• Preferred: Relevant Technical Rescue certifications (e.g., Confined Space Rescue, High-Angle Rescue, Vehicle Extrication).

Schedule

During training and initial launch, the operating pattern will be an 8-10 hour shift, transitioning to a 12-hour shift schedule.
