Industrial Firefighter/Emergency Response Technician, BlueOval Battery Park Michigan- PACK

About the role

BlueOval Battery Park Michigan seeks an experienced and skilled firefighter who can drive innovation and safety in the automotive industry.

Responsibilities

• Fire Suppression: Respond to fires, operate firefighting equipment, conduct search and rescue operations, perform ventilation, overhaul, and salvage operations.
• Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Response: Identify and contain hazardous materials, utilize PPE, understand chemical properties, perform decontamination procedures.
• Medical Aid: Provide immediate pre-hospital medical care, stabilize patients, assist EMS personnel.
• Technical Rescue: Participate in specialized rescue operations, utilize specialized rescue tools and techniques, ensure safety protocols are adhered to.
• Emergency Standby & Hot Work Coverage: Provide dedicated fire and safety coverage, ensure safety protocols are strictly followed.
• Incident Command System (ICS) Support: Operate effectively within the ICS structure, follow orders, maintain accountability, provide status reports.
• Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain fire prevention equipment, perform routine inspections, functional tests, cleaning, and minor maintenance on fire apparatus and equipment.
• Facility Inspections: Conduct routine and systematic fire safety inspections, identify potential fire hazards, unsafe conditions, or non-compliance issues.
• Pre-Incident Planning: Develop and review pre-incident plans for various scenarios, understand building layouts, process flow diagrams, hazardous material locations, utility shut-offs, and emergency egress routes.
• Permit System Compliance: Review and verify compliance for hot work permits, confined space entry permits, and other safety-related permits.
• Risk Assessment: Actively participate in identifying and assessing risks related to fire, explosion, and other emergencies.
• Safety Adherence: Strictly adhere to company policies, SOPs, safety regulations, and industry best practices, proactively identify and report unsafe conditions or practices.
• Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory of firefighting supplies, HazMat absorbents, medical supplies, and rescue equipment, ensure proper storage and accessibility.
• Continuous Learning: Participate in required training programs, drills, and exercises, maintain physical fitness standards.
• Internal Training Support: Assist in developing and delivering fire safety and emergency preparedness training.
• Incident Reporting: Accurately and thoroughly document incidents, near-misses, inspections, training activities, and equipment maintenance.
• Effective Constructive Communication: Use constructive communication skills during routine operations and emergencies.
• Shift Handovers: Conduct thorough and detailed handovers at the end of shifts.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II (or equivalent state/provisional certification).
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of emergency services experience as a certified firefighter.
• Previous Emergency Services experience or combination of previous work experience and training equivalent.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills under pressure.
• Excellent decision-making abilities in high-stress situations.
• Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to pass a NFPA firefighter physical.
• Acute attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Ability to strictly follow instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols.
• Exceptional computer skills, reading, and data interpretation.
• Comfortable learning new technology.
• Legally authorized to work in the US.
