Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable field operations professional to join our dynamic team supporting critical infrastructure across multiple sites and facilities. This role offers a unique blend of technical challenges, requiring expertise in radio systems, electrical infrastructure, and power systems, while providing the autonomy to manage and execute projects independently.

Responsibilities

  • Install Land Mobile Radio (LMR) radios in various equipment and buildings
  • Perform DC plant installation and maintenance, including rectifiers, breakers, wiring, terminations, batteries, network communication, configuration, AC input, and DC output
  • Install and maintain AC UPS systems, including lithium-ion UPS units, transformers, PDUs, network communication, and cable management
  • Perform grounding and bonding for buildings, towers, and equipment, both interior and exterior
  • Conduct Siteboss and alarm system recognition maintenance, both remotely and on-site
  • Safely operate electrical instruments including volt and amp meters, conduit benders, and hand tools
  • Apply appropriate PPE for each task and situation
  • Escort and supervise external contractors performing various work at sites
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOM) for projects including grounding and bonding, AC or DC UPS, pLTE, and cable management or site refreshes
  • Receive, organize, and maintain inventory of materials and replacement equipment for upcoming work
  • Troubleshoot tickets related to power and UPS systems
  • Refresh and clean MDFs and IDFs, including cable management and necessary equipment or rack upgrades
  • Document existing equipment and assess life expectancy
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sites, access requirements, and ownership details
  • Transport Xcel-owned equipment safely to various locations as required
  • Perform HVAC replacements, radio system upgrades, and generator maintenance as needed
  • Work independently and without direct supervision to identify and resolve issues within defined scope

Skills

  • Proficiency in LMR radio installation and configuration
  • Strong knowledge of DC power plant systems, including rectifiers, batteries, and wiring
  • Experience with AC UPS systems and associated components
  • Understanding of grounding and bonding standards and practices
  • Ability to interpret and apply electrical schematics and technical documentation
  • Competency with electrical test instruments and hand tools
  • Knowledge of proper PPE selection and usage for various electrical and field environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for power and UPS systems
  • Ability to create accurate Bills of Materials for infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with MDF and IDF environments, including cable management and rack systems
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage tasks without direct supervision
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying tasks and locations on a week-to-week basis

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in electrical systems, telecommunications, or a related field preferred
  • Relevant certifications in electrical systems, low-voltage installation, or telecommunications are a plus
  • OSHA safety certification or equivalent field safety training preferred
  • A valid driver's license required
